The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has changed how taxpayers authorize tax professionals to access their personal tax information.
As of July 15, 2025, tax preparers can no longer submit authorization requests through tax software. All new authorizations must now be completed by the taxpayer directly through CRA’s “My Account” portal.
What This Means for You
If you’re a new client or your previous authorization has expired, here’s what you need to do before we can begin working on your return:
Log in to your CRA “My Account”:
If you don’t already have one, you can register at canada.ca/my-cra-account.
Look out for our authorization request.
Once submitted, you’ll receive a message in your CRA account asking you to confirm or deny the request.
Confirm the request within 10 business days.
If not confirmed within this timeframe, the request will be cancelled by CRA.
Why This Step Is Important
We are unable to access your CRA file until your authorization is confirmed. Completing this step ensures we have accurate, up-to-date tax information to prepare your return properly and on time.
